I am someone who has always wanted to dabble in photography but was not able to do so in the past due to a lot of factors which were beyond my control. I am quite thankful that I have been blessed with the opportunity to - even if it's just little by little - pursue something which I perceive to be my lifelong passion.
I'm now based in Hamilton, New Zealand but I am originally from the tropical country of the Philippines. I think I may have been a gypsy in my past life, because travelling is in my blood. I so love to travel! I may have not travelled as extensively as others, but definitely more than most, and when I do manage to get away I always take my camera with me wherever I go. Most of the pictures in my gallery (samplers, so to speak) were taken on various holidays in and around New Zealand, as well as overseas. More images of the places I've visited are in my multiply and stories of some of my adventures are in my travel blog. Perhaps one day, I can consolidate all my blogs, albums and galleries in one general site.
Regarding my so-called-photographic skills ... well, I can honestly say that I am self taught. As I said earlier, I've always wanted to be involved in photography and since I have limited resources, I had to make do with what was available. All that I know about taking pictures and post processing I learned through trial and error, attending short courses, reading books, researching on the internet, and through solicited and unsolicited (but much appreciated) advice from friends and colleagues.
I know that there's still room for improvement and of course, there's still a lot to learn in terms of techniques and styles, and sometimes the reality that I don't know squat just overwhelms me. I do wish I could earn a degree in photography but at the moment it is not possible due to my full-time work commitments, and my casual job as a theatre attendant (I get to watch shows for free! You can't beat that). Besides, nothing beats hands-on experience eh? (sour graping! hahaha!)
Anyway, right now I'm just enjoying the fact that I can finally take semi-decent photos which I believe are 'not-that-bad" and some are even worthy of display. These may not be award-winning images (I love James Nachtwey's photos, but I don't think I can be like him. I wouldn't be able to see the things he has seen without breaking down) but I have to start somewhere. Maybe, with a lot of practice, time and patience, I'd be able to make my mark (small and insignificant as it may be) in the industry.
